Teaching Parts for U tempu de una minnana

The following are extracts from the Corsica 2010 Village Harmony teaching session where we learned the paghjella “U tempu de una minnana”.

I provide these links so folks can learn each of the parts, then teach them to others.

Patty, Larry, and Jean Etienne taught us first the lead [melody], then the bass, then  had us sing the lead and bass together.

And then, while the rest of us did the lead and bass, Jean Etienne gave us various examples of how the tercio might sing and ornament that part. There are four different examples here.

U Temp – Lead

U Temp – Bass

U Tempu – Lead with Bass

U Tempu – Jean Etienne Tercio version 1

U Tempu – Jean Etienne Tercio version 2

U Tempu – Jean Etienne Tercio version 3

U Tempu – Jean Etienne Tercio version 4

The following link is to my much-annotated lyrics sheet for “U tempu de una minnana” [and also for “Da Sant’Andria di Boziu” and “Vai Vai”].

Saucisse Panini in Bastia

Skeptics have suggested that my rapturous extolling the virtues of a hot-dog panini in Corsica are signs of a deranged mind.

But no! Look at this delicious treat!

The waitress asked me if I would like my ‘frites’ on the side, or IN THE PANINI! How could I resist?!

The ‘saucisses’… really, just hot-dogs… were served with delicious fresh tomatoes and a spiced, herbed mayonnaise. And it was HEAVENLY!

Triple E Guitar Tuning and Reconciliation Arrangement – for Tracey

As requested, specifically by Tracey [with many thanks to her for sharing the tune], and to all others interested in the cool Triple E guitar tuning, which I also used for ‘Hostage-O’, ‘My Sh*t’s F*cked Up’, and other light classics. [I have not, alas, provided chord forms in the Triple E tuning for those tunes; I will however, supply them on request.]

Another note to Tracey: on one of the descending lines, I realize that it may not be clear from the video that I often play one chord… a chord that is fretted exactly like an E min in standard tuning… with a single finger. Most other folks will play that chord with two fingers, one on the A string, second fret, and another on the D string, second fret.

Videos from the 2010 Village Harmony workshops and concert tour in Corsica

As the title suggests, herein are posted a bunch of videos from a recent Village Harmony tour of Corsica. Those of you who were with me don’t need this explained. For the benefit of other accidental internet tourists, here’s a link to the Village Harmony website which describes Village Harmony and its activities, and a link describing the Corsica tour itself.

The posts below are in inverse chronological order… because I am a blog tyro, and didn’t think to load the videos in reverse order so they’d appear to the reader in proper chronological order. Oh, well.
